Hypnotherapy is the method a qualified therapist or care-giver
employs through the use of hypnosis as the means to bring about a relaxed
positive change in the mental state of an individual. Hypnosis is a very safe
technique for the accomplishment of many useful goals. Often called by names
such as "guided visualization", "sports enhancement", stress
reduction training", "goal motivation"... the relaxed natural
state of hypnosis is used extensively in the fields of wellness, habit change,
goal achievement, sports, sales and other areas. It is frequently used as an
adjunct to treatments provided by licensed medical, dental and mental health
professionals. Your physician or dentist may be trained in hypnosis or may refer
you to a certified hypnotherapist for specific interventions, such as habit
control, management of pain, or stress reduction.
During hypnotherapy, the therapist guides you into the same
natural, deeply relaxed state of mind that you experience while going to sleep
or waking up. In this peaceful state, your body feels somewhat lethargic and
very relaxed. Your mind becomes quiet and serene emotionally. In this same state
of deep relaxation, many useful changes can be effected effortlessly in a short
period of time.
Hypnotherapy is safe for children as well as adults.
Therapy
sessions with a Certified Hypnotherapist are scheduled at the Wellness Center by appointment.
Meet our therapist.... Dorothy
Dorothy Shaffer received her certification as a Hypnotherapist in 1995 from the National Guild of Hypnotists. She has also completed advanced training from Psychological Services in past-life regression therapy.
As a past co-chair of the research committee of the Association of Past Life Research and Therapies, Dorothy’s interest has been on researching the best techniques available to help her clients. By lecturing at community colleges, study groups and corporate functions, she demystifies hypnosis for her audience and helps to bring a greater appreciation of complementary care.
Dorothy’s focus is on empowering people to help themselves. By looking at our illness or problems as opportunities for growth, rather than something to be overcome, we can learn to profit from the experience. As we grow in the healing process, we begin to understand that we have a body and a mind, but we are a soul. With this understanding, our journey here on earth takes on a new meaning for us and we become more than we ever imagined.
What is Hypnosis ?
Hypnosis is not as some people think, a form of sleep. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness in which the subject is alert, aware and in full control of his or her own words and actions at all times.
Our subconscious mind holds memories from all of our life experiences as well as our feelings and reactions to those experiences. These affect our personalities, our relationships and our daily lives. Hypnosis is a means of bypassing the conscious mind’s barrier and directly contacting the subconscious mind where attitude, behavior and other modifications can be achieved.
After emerging from the hypnotic state, you will remember everything that was said and everything that happened. In fact, the hypnotic state is a very pleasurable experience, like a journey to inner peace and tranquility!
Empower yourself !!
